Ramanathaswamy Temple is an important pilgrimage site for the followers of Hinduism.It is consider that a visit to this temple washes away one’s sins and brings salvation (moksha). Built and established in the 17th century, the grand Rameswaram temple lies to the eastern side of the Island. Rameswaram Well known for its 1200 huge granite columns there is the 54 meter tall gopuram(tower) of the gate which is seen from a long distance. There are about 1220 meters of magnificent corridors as well as the columns and pillars embellished with fine decorations. This place is situated in Mosque Street in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. The place is very well organized and well maintained. One should definitely visit to see the phases of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. This is tiny museum that documents his illustrious life quite beautifully. The house in which he lived in growing up is situated in the Mosque Street. The house is now converted into a museum and has photographs, certificates, doctorates, honors and awards showcasing his life right from his childhood days. All his scholarly works are also documented here. The two storied building is maintained by his elder brother and the collections here have been arranged in a methodical fashion. All the medals and awards he has earned as well as his research work is on display in the museum. The ground floor you will find a small shop where one can buy handmade souvenirs and sea shells are a specialty here.

Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple, the five-faced Hanuman Temple, is located at a distance of 2 km from Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple. This temple is devoted to Lord Hanuman. It is said that Lord had exposed his five faces here, hence the idol of Hanuman is depicted with five faces which are of Lord Hanuman in the middle along with faces of Lord Narasimha, Lord Adivaraha, Lord Garuda and Lord Hayagriva on the sides. The statue has been enclosed with senthooram by saints. In 1964, after the cyclone in Dhanuskhodi, the idols of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita was brought to this temple and placed here. Also known as Panchamukha Anjaneya, Panchamukha Hanuman Temple is visited by almost every devotees who come for a Rameshwaram Tour. Along with the 5-faced Hanuman statue this place also houses the floating stones that are believed to be used while constructing the RamaSethu. One can see the stones floating in water in a caged barrier.

This is a Kothandaramaswamy Temple also known as Vibhishana temple, situated on the left side island on the way to Dhanushkodi from Rameshwaram. This temple is situated approx 13km from Rameshwaram. This is the only temple which survived 1964 cyclone which washed away completely the Dhanushkodi town. It is said by local people that this is the place were lord Rama has conducted “Pattabhishekam” (ascension to king of Lanka) to Vibhishana. It is also called as Vibhishan temple. This temple is very near to sea shore. We can a spectacular view of the sea from this temple. It is amazing place to visit in Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi.
